Introduction

The Neighborhood Traffic Safety Alliance is a group of citizen volunteers from Vancouver’s neighborhoods who advocate for neighborhood traffic safety and advise Vancouver’s Public Works Department, Community Development Department, or other transportation-related agencies in identifying needs and mitigation of traffic issues affecting neighborhood within the limits of available resources.

The NTSA acts as an independent advisory committee and is open to membership from any recognized neighborhood association within the City of Vancouver.

City of Vancouver residents are encouraged to participate in the Neighborhood Traffic Safety Alliance to learn more about traffic safety in their neighborhoods and to become more involved in making the city a safer place to live.

In 2010, the Neighborhood Traffic Safety Alliance and City of Vancouver hosted three special ‘safe streets’ clinics to explore low-cost safety tools for residents to use in addressing local speeding concerns on neighborhood streets. The clinics included Do It Yourself Traffic Calming, Neighborhood Placemaking and 22 Benefits of Urban Street Trees. Grant funding supported several projects that resulted in neighbor-initiated actions to address traffic safety concerns on residential streets in 2011.
