Public Records

Public records include official city records such as ordinances, resolutions, staff reports, city council meeting minutes, the Vancouver Municipal Code (VMC), and other related documents that have been acted upon by the Vancouver City Council.

To get printed copies of Public Records, complete a Public Records Request form (below) and return it to the address provided on the form. The price and time necessary to produce the records varies according to the volume. Contact the Public Records Officer at (360) 696-8016 for more information.

Birth, death records, marriage, divorce and property records are held by Clark County, not the City of Vancouver. See "Related Links" at left for more information on those records.

Court records are also under the jurisdiction of Clark County.

Police Reports from the Vancouver Police Department are processed and filed by the Clark County Sheriff's Office. For more information, call 360-397-2211.

Staff Reports are memoranda to city council outlining current policy or situations, and proposed changes including any disadvantages or advantages. All items submitted to city council for consideration are accompanied by a staff report.

Resolutions are short-term changes that may affect neighborhood associations, street vacations, street speeds, Council procedures, etc.

Ordinances are long-term changes that affect the budget or the municipal codes such as parking rates, policies, building requirements, etc.
