18th Annual Paddy Hough Parade
March 17, 2009
Hough School's namesake, Patrick (Paddy) Hough, was an Irish immigrant and beloved pioneer educator in the Vancouver area. He served as a teacher as well as an assistant superintendent for Vancouver schools in the late eighteen hundreds and early nineteen hundreds. Paddy Hough just happens to have been born on St. Patrick's Day, March 17th.
Each year the Hough Foundation sponsors and coordinates the Paddy Hough Parade in his honor. This traditional parade celebrates our rich history and sense of community bringing students, staff and our city together.
This year is the 18th Annual Paddy Hough Parade with the theme “YES WE CAN”! Our parade is an all community event; including Hough School students, Vancouver Public Schools marching bands, bagpipers, car clubs, Vancouver Fire and Police Departments, local and state dignitaries as well as many Vancouver and vicinity community members and organizations.
The parade is staged on Daniels Street in front of the school. Walkers, marchers and vehicles then march up Daniels Street going north to 24th Street, then going east to Main Street, then proceed south on Main to McLoughlin returning to Hough School. The parade starts at 12:30 sharp and lasts approximately 45 minutes, after which the participants return to Hough School for the classroom awards ceremony. The best viewing is on Main Street anywhere along the parade route. The sun always shines on the Paddy Hough Parade (no matter what the weather)!
Location: Uptown Village, Vancouver WA. Best viewing on Main Street Email: Barbara.Hammon@vansd.org Phone: 360-313-2107
