CDBG 2007 Projects
• Clark County Child Passenger Safety Team – Child Car Seat Program ($62,400): Provided for the purchase and distribution of car seats, materials, brochures and information resources to low to moderate-income families within the City of Vancouver who cannot afford to purchase car seats for their children.
• Vancouver Fire Department – Fire Station #83 ($101,115): Updates to provide for full Title II ADA compliance for this facility accomplishing barrier removal and equal access for all citizens.
• Unlimited Choices, Inc. – Adapt-A-Home ($130,000): Allowed disabled and/or elderly individuals to maintain their independent living status by making their homes ADA accessible.
• Unlimited Choices – Mend-A-Home ($70,000): Emergency home repairs for homeowners that are 50% of median income and below.
• Vancouver – Clark Parks and Recreation Scholarship Program ($50,000): Provided scholarships to low-income families that may be used at the family’s discretion for any activities offered in the Parks and Recreation catalog.
• Share, Inc. – Share ASPIRE ($50,000): Provide transitional housing for 175 people (62 families) with rental subsidies so that households pay not more than 30% of their income for housing with case management providing to the successful transition into permanent housing.
• Share, Inc. – Share Outreach ($65,000): Provides for the expansion of a street outreach program to enable homeless individuals to access services.
• Vancouver School District Foundation – “Gear Up Rocket” ($35,000): The Vancouver School District Foundation proposes to introduce 200 ‘Gear Up’ students to the visual, cultural, and performing arts in our local Vancouver/Portland community by purchasing tickets and providing transportation to students field trips to museums, live theatre and musical performances.
• YW Housing- Case Management ($20,000): Provide individualized housing services case management for very low income individuals and their families in the HOME funded transitional and permanent housing units.
• Columbia Non-Profit Housing- First Home Loan ($150,000): The First Home Loan program is focusing on promoting homeownership within the Fourth Plain Boulevard Sub-area. Down payment assistance loans of approximately $35,000 to will be available to individuals and families for the purchase of their first home.
• Boys and Girls Club of Southwest Washington- Jim Parsley Center ($50,000): The Boys and Girls Club of Southwest Washington (BGCSW) serves all school age youth with a special focus on those with the greatest obstacles and the least opportunities in life. Instead of walking the streets or being home alone, youth come to the Club where professionals provide: a safe environment where kids can have fun; constructive programming that channel youthful energy into challenging pursuits; and supportive relationships that help build young people’s self-esteem.
• Community Housing Resource Center- Credit Smart and Get the Facts! ($40,000): The Community Housing Resource Center [CHRC) will provide an in-depth financial education program called Credit Smart®, to help low and moderate income individuals and families develop sound money management skills. In addition, the CHRC will provide a community outreach effort called Get the Facts, which is intended to dispel common misconceptions about buying and owning a home.
• Council for the Homeless- Next Steps for Ending Homelessness ($2,500): More than 3,000 people (including more than 1,000 children) are homeless in Clark County throughout the year. The systems that serve them are increasingly complex, requiring a strong coordinating effort so we can effectively end homelessness in our community. The creation of a strategic plan will identify how to most effectively support, lead, and catalyze the various players’ roles in ending homelessness.
