Parking With a Placard or Special License Plate
Vehicles with a valid and properly displayed disabled parking placard or special plate may be parked on the street, for free, in any parking space that is time restricted (including metered parking). The amount of time a vehicle with a valid and properly displayed disabled parking placard or special plate may park on the street at a time restricted parking space may be limited to no less than four hours, if signed with a disabled parking time limit. All on-street parking is subject to the Prolonged Parking Ordinance VMC 19.12.100 19.12.110
The disabled parking placard or special plate authorizes parking in any specially-designated disabled parking spaces. Note: Van-accessible spaces are designed for use by wheelchair vans. Please use them only if you drive a wheelchair van or no other disabled parking spaces are available.
Some private and public parking lots charge for parking even in specially-designated disabled parking spaces.
The disabled parking placard or special plate does not authorize free parking in public or private off-street parking lots or parking in zones or areas where stopping, parking, or standing of all vehicles is prohibited or in parking spaces reserved for special types of vehicles (monthly parking permit, city use zones, police zones, fire lanes, loading zones, etc.).
