What is “Fair & Balanced” When It Comes to Elections?!

Monday, September 22, 2008

You’ve read in earlier entries about how busy we are during “election season”. So you know it’s not just an illusion, we taped 12 election interviews featuring  24 candidates, and 24 video voter guide statements over a two week period early in September.  That’s in addition to other special projects, city council meeting, and community events.  The finished product makes it look simple, but that is due to the outstanding work by a small and dedicated crew here at CVTV!

And as with all things when it comes to candidates, elections, and television, there is always the unexpected!  We try to stress in our side-by-side interviews that we want the discussions to be conversational, not confrontational.  After all, they are interviews to help voters understand candidates’ backgrounds and positions on the issues.  However, as you can see on occasion, sometimes candidates just can’t help themselves!

Jim Demmon, the interviewer for our legislative candidates, received a very nice note from one of the candidates we’d like to share with you:

Jim,
I want to thank you for being a fair and non-biased moderator. Many of my supporters have watched the interview and were impressed with you. Many of these supporters emailed me and said that you earned their respect. I have always respected you but now I also know that you are professional and fair as well.
Thank you,
Joseph James

So, happy viewing!  The general election ballots will be in the mail soon!

Later this week…an update on communications issues nationally and a look at what the conversion to digital TV in February may mean for you, or your non-cable TV friends and relatives!
