Free! Hike Orientation - Luepke Center

Hike orientations are held bi-monthly. Next orientation will be Thursday, June 1, 12 - 3:30 p.m.. Marshall Center,1009 E. McLoughlin Blvd. No registration necessary. Free.

The orientation includes approximately one hour of classroom time plus a 1-2 hour, easy hike along the Waterfront Trail near Beaches Restaurant and back. Please come prepared to hike. Bring a bottle of water, and wear appropriate hiking clothes and hiking shoes that will enable you to walk 3-4 miles.

This hike is approximately 3-4 miles and will qualify participants as their completed easy hike. We will have several volunteer guides on this hike to evaluate the ability of new hikers. Once you have completed the hike orientation and easy hike, a barcode will be added to your customer account that will allow you to register for more difficult hikes. If you do not  complete the hike on orientation day, you will NOT qualify to register for hikes.

Skill Levels

Easy: 4 miles with an elevation gain of up to 600 feet. Must be able to walk a 20-minute mile on fairly level ground with little elevation gain.

Moderate: 4-6 miles with an elevation gain of up to 1,500 feet. May include slopes and/or steep areas.

Difficult: 6-8 miles with an elevation gain of up to 2,500 feet or more.

Expert: 8-plus miles with an elevation gain of 2,500 + feet.

Difficult and expert hikes may include slopes, narrow paths, steep areas, and/or drop offs. These hikes involve harder climbing and are only for those who are fit enough to hike these ratings. No exceptions.

Easy Monday Hikes

We have added hikes on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. You must be able to maintain a 20-minute-mile pace with little elevation gain. All Easy Monday Hikes are 3-5 miles with an elevation gain of up to 300 feet. Registration required. $13 resident; $15 nonresident. For more information please contact Becky at 360-487-7084.

Hikes begin at 9:30 a.m. and return at approximately 2:30 p.m. Please arrive for hikes by 9:15 a.m. Bring snacks and a lunch to eat on the trail.

Tuesday Hikes

Join us on Tuesdays for year-round adventures throughout the great Northwest, from the Columbia River Gorge to the beaches of the Pacific Ocean. The hikes are a great way to stay active, meet new people and have fun. They are approximately 4-8 miles long, round-trip. Some trips may include a second afternoon hike, time and weather permitting.

All hikes are designed for hikers with experience. You must be able to maintain a 20-minute mile pace. Please check the rating on the hike and pay consideration to the distance and elevation gain. Many of these hikes are located in distant wilderness areas.
