50+ Forever Young Hikers

Hikers tackle Observation Peak on a recent 50+Forever Young Hikers trek.

Join us on Tuesdays for year-round adventures throughout the great Northwest, from the Columbia River Gorge to the beaches of the Pacific Ocean. A great way to stay active, meet new people and have fun.

Free! Hike Orientation - Luepke Center

Hike orientations are held bi-monthly. Next orientation will be Thursday, June 2, 12 - 1 p.m. Marshall Center Craft Room, 1009 E. McLoughlin Blvd. No registration necessary. Free.

If you are new to Luepke Center's hiking programs, an orientation class is mandatory. Discussion includes what to expect, what to bring and what to wear; as well as program requirements.

All hikes are designed for hikers with experience. You must be able to maintain a 20-minute mile pace. Please check the rating on the hike and pay consideration to the distance and elevation gain. Many of these hikes are located in distant wilderness areas.

Hikes are approximately 4-8 miles, round-trip. All hikes may include a second afternoon hike, time and weather permitting. Registration is required. $15 resident, $17 nonresident. Please call 360-487-7100.

Skill Levels

Easy: 4 miles with an elevation gain of up to 600 feet. Must be able to walk a 20-minute mile on fairly level ground with little elevation gain.

Moderate: 4-6 miles with an elevation gain of up to 1,500 feet. May include slopes and/or steep areas.

Difficult: 6-8 miles with an elevation gain of up to 2,500 feet or more.

Expert: 8-plus miles with an elevation gain of 2,500 + feet.

Difficult and expert hikes may include slopes, narrow paths, steep areas, and/or drop offs. These hikes involve harder climbing and are only for those who are fit enough to hike these ratings. No exceptions.

  • Milo McIver State Park, Ore., Aug. 23: Easy. 4 miles, 250 foot elevation gain.
  • Hardy Ridge, Wash., Aug. 30:  Difficult. 7 miles, 2,300 foot elevation gain.
  • Latourell & Bridal Veil Falls, Ore., Aug. 30: Easy 3.5 miles, 300 foot elevation gain.

Easy Monday Hikes - We have added hikes on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. You must be able to maintain a 20-minute-mile pace with little elevation gain. All Easy Monday Hikes are 3-5 miles with an elevation gain of up to 300 feet. Registration required. $12 resident; $14 nonresident. For more information please contact Becky at 360-487-7084.

Hikes begin at 9:30 a.m. and return at approximately 2:30 p.m. Please arrive for hikes by 9:15 a.m. Bring snacks and a lunch to eat on the trail.
