Join us on Tuesdays for year-round adventures throughout the great Northwest, from the Columbia River Gorge to the beaches of the Pacific Ocean. A great way to stay active, meet new people and have fun.

Free! Hike Orientation - Luepke Center

If you are new to Luepke Center's hiking programs, an orientation class is mandatory. Discussion includes what to expect, what to bring and what to wear; as well as program requirements.

All hikes are designed for hikers with experience. You must be able to maintain a 20-minute mile pace. Please check the rating on the hike and pay consideration to the distance and elevation gain. Many of these hikes are located in distant wilderness areas.

Hikes are approximately 4-8 miles, round-trip. All hikes may include a second afternoon hike, time and weather permitting.

Recommended Gear

  • Hiking boots
  • Whistle
  • Water bottle
  • Walking stick
  • Layered clothing

 

Skill Levels

Easy: 4 miles with an elevation gain of up to 300 feet. Must be able to walk a 20-minute mile on fairly level ground with little elevation gain.

Moderate: 4-6 miles with an elevation gain of up to 1,500 feet. May include slopes and/or steep areas.

Difficult: 6-8 miles with an elevation gain of up to 2,500 feet or more. Involves harder clilmbing, rocky terrain, possible steep and/or narrow paths.

Looking for a Volunteer Hiking Guide/Driver: The program is looking for a volunteer hiking guide and driver. Volunteers must be 50+ and willing to take First Aid/CPR training. If you are interested in being involved in the hiking program, have the time to research potential new hikes, evaluate trails and are comfortable driving a 15-passenger van, please give us a call.   • Tooth Rock to Wauna-Columbia River Gorge, Ore., Sept. 23: Moderate. 5 miles, 900 foot elevation gain.
  • Bull of The Woods-Mt. Hood NF, Ore., Sept. 30: Difficult. 7 miles, 2,000 foot elevation gain.
  • Fort Clatsop to Sea Trail, Ore., Oct. 7: Moderate. 6.5 miles, 500 foot elevation gain.

Transportation is provided for all hikes. Departure is from the Luepke Center.
