Code Compliance Responsibilities

The Code Compliance Team is eight dedicated individuals (Six Officers, One Support Staff and One Supervisor) charged with maintaining the livability of neighborhoods through the use of various Vancouver Municipal Codes like the Property Maintenance Code, Development Code, Solid Waste Management Ordinance and the Abandoned Vehicle on Public Property Code. Gaining compliance with these laws is the duty and responsibility of the Code Compliance Team.

The Code Compliance Team will normally gain compliance in these areas through education, assistance, resources and then, when required, prepare a legal investigation and issue civil and/or criminal orders and notices to violators to maintain the safety and livability of neighborhoods for the citizens of Vancouver.

Code Compliance Officers handled 3,668 phone generated investigations and 2,388 abandoned vehicle complaints in 2007.
