Vancouver, WA
MyPark Neighborhood Park (formerly Date Street right-of-way) exemplifies
how citizens can help build a true sense of community. This little park, which is 54 feet
wide by 300 feet long, was formerly a transportation right-of-way.
Over the course of nine years, the Harney Heights Neighborhood wrote several
grants and convinced the City that the right-of-way would
make a great park space. The need was recognized and the monies
became available to add this gem of a space to the parks inventory in
2006.
The Vancouver -Clark Parks and Recreation
Department worked with the neighborhood to develop a
master plan. Construction was funded by a Community Development Block Grant and completed
two years later.
The MyPark Neighborhood Park mission statement, as prepared by the neighbors:
"A safe, welcoming place for all, especially kids."
