Construction has begun on the Burnt Bridge Creek Regional Wetland Bank and Greenway Trail Project. The general contractor, Colf Construction, has started work on new improvements including water quality facilities, restored flood plain wetlands, natural habitat restoration and extension of the Discovery Trail system.

Natural habitat restoration will include extensive plantings of trees and shrubs. For the success of these plantings, control of invasive plants and animals is required. Nutria, a non-native rodent which destroys wetland vegetation, will be removed by a U.S. Department of Agriculture biologist. Also, noxious weeds such as reed canarygrass and Himalayan blackberry vines will be controlled.

The recreational trail will include a trailhead at Devine Road with parking, restrooms, a picnic table and informational plaza. When the new sections are completed, the Discovery Trail will extend from Fruit Valley Road to Burton Road. Updates will be provided to neighborhoods on the Greenway throughout the construction process.
