+ General Recreation Staff

It's hard to tell who has more fun- our employees or our customers!Work with all ages and abilities in recreation activities. You will represent the City in assisting and/or teaching others in leisure activities such as sports, exercise, camps and programs. Experience in these fields as well as exceptional customer service and problem solving is desired. Job locations can include Firstenburg Community Center, Marshall Community Center, outdoor local parks and schools.

Climbing Wall:

Work with groups of children and adults ensuring their safety while climbing. Employees will be trained onsite in belaying/rope management skills. You will represent the City in supporting climbers, giving clear directions and being the lead supervisor of the climbing wall area. Job location is at Firstenburg Community Center.

Child Watch:

Indoor soccer at Firstenburg Community Center Work with infants and children up to age 10 in a childcare setting. Your experience with infants, toddlers and children through babysitting is desired. You will represent the City in a capacity of holding infants, teaching children social skills and playing with them utilizing appropriately aged toys and games. Job locations can include Firstenburg Community Center and/or Marshall Community Center.

Weight Room Attendant:

Candidates are customer service oriented and familiar with fitness, exercise machines and health. You will represent the City by supervising the exercise area, fitness desk and assisting customers with questions about the weight and cardio machines. You will respond to safety/injury issues and will be trained in policies and procedures that apply. Job locations can include Firstenburg Community Center and/or Marshall Community Center.

Gymnasium Supervisor:

Supervise gymnasium sport activities such as basketball and volleyball for teens and adults. You will represent the City by supervising play, behavior and score boards. You will be trained in safety/injury response. A background in sports, leagues and decision making/problem solving is desired. Job locations can include Firstenburg Community Center and/or Marshall Community Center.

Camp Counselors:

Climbing wall at Firstenburg Community CenterWork with children ages 3-6, 6-10 and 11-15. You will be working with a variety of people of all abilities. This position requires a variety of experience in sports, crafts, recreational game programming and strong team work. Job locations can include Firstenburg Community Center and/or Marshall Community Center.

Sport League Supervisor/Referee:

Supervise/referee sport leagues such as basketball, soccer, flag football, baseball and volleyball for youth. You will represent the City by supervising play, rules, behaviors and supporting volunteer coaches. You will be trained in safety/injury response. A background in sports, leagues, referring and problem solving is desired. Job locations can include Firstenburg Community Center, Marshall Community Center and City Sports Fields.

+ Aquatics

Lifeguard:

Candidates are interested in ensuring the Firstenburg and Marshall pools are the safest, friendliest and most fun in Vancouver. Lifeguards ensure patron safety and enjoyment and stand ready to respond to a guest in distress. This position requires a lifeguard certification, however, successful candidates will be provided initial and on-going training to obtain and retain needed certification. Lifeguards gain leadership, customer service and lifesaving skills that are very transferrable to future career interests and pursuits.

Water Safety Instructor:

Candidates are interested in teaching the lifelong and lifesaving skills of how to swim and general water safety. Our Water Safety Instructors are some of the best in the industry. So, if you enjoy working with people, especially kids, providing instruction and are comfortable in and around the water, we have a one the best training programs and ongoing training and support to be a successful Water Safety Instructor in one of the largest swim lesson programs in Clark County.

Water Fitness Instructor:

Help the City’s Parks and Recreation department fulfill the needs of a broad spectrum of community members by providing a safe and enjoyable low-impact exercise experience and environment. Through demonstration and verbal instruction, you will instruct participants in effective aerobic and strengthening workout techniques as well as appropriate flexibility exercises.

Inclusion Mentor:

Provides individual and group assistance for people with disabilities to help them be successful in a variety of different activities. Successful candidates will possess a positive and helpful attitude, strong communication skills, and enjoy working with people of all ages.
