Precinct Information

The Vancouver Police Department East Precinct located on the northwest corner of Mill Plain Blvd and SE 155th Avenue, opened June 27, 2006. The precinct serves citizens within the city limits who are located east of Andresen. The precinct houses patrol squads, civilian Police Service Technicians, Neighborhood Police Officers and a Community Policing Specialist. The East Precinct is adjacent to a two-acre community park which allows the Police and Parks Departments to work together to develop community programs to benefit the community.

In July 2007 the Vancouver Police Department implemented 'Territorial Policing' which divides the Precinct into two Districts which are each led by a Lieutenant. Each District is supervised by a Sergeant and has a Neighborhbood Police Officer assigned to it. Within the Districts Police Officers are assigned individual Beats. This assignment provides them to opportunity to become more familiar with the crime trends, the neighborhoods, the businesses and the citizens living and working in that beat.

Beat jurisdictions are divided on neighborhood association lines so that neighborhood associations are not broken up. Some beats will naturally include more neighborhoods than others but no established associations will be divided into more than one Beat. Police Traffic Stop

The advantage of this type of structure is the increased personal accountability and responsibility by the Commanders who oversee their Precinct, the Lieutenants and Sergeants who are responsible for their individual Districts and the Officers who are responsible for their individual Beats.

Each Precinct now has two Neighborhood Police Officers (NPO), each assigned to a district. The NPO’s are the liaisons to the citizens within their district and are available to meet with neighbors to discuss crime issues, livability issues, attend community meetings and to answer questions about crime trends and prevention. These officers are the main contact person for a citizen within a district to go to when there are crime issues or other concerns that the police department can assist them with. These officers work cross departmentally as well to assist citizens with problem solving strategies as well.
