The Vancouver Police Department has one officer that participates in the Portland Metro Explosive Disposal Unit, a team of specially trained officers from seven local agencies responsible for region-wide response to chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive incidents. This assignment is a collateral duty for the Officers who are part of this team.
Typical missions include suspected explosive devices, post-blast investigations, SWAT team assists, bomb sweeps, dignitary protection, teaching, community presentations, and disposal of explosives, fireworks, dangerous chemicals, and ammunition.

Course at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama. They are also required to maintain proficiency through regional team training and attend a two-week explosive ordinance refresher course every 3 years at Redstone Arsenal.

All members are highly trained in the recognition, handling and disposal of ordinance, explosive materials and devices. Unit members are required to successfully complete the six-week FBI Explosive Ordinance Training
