The Mercury Cycle

Mercury occurs naturally in the environment in rocks, soil, air and water. Although volcanic eruptions can hurl mercury vapor high into the atmosphere, most of the mercury that harms us comes from human activities. Once in the environment, mercury can take different forms as it cycles and circulates through air, water, soil and living organisms.
