Neighborhood Parking

If you live outside of the downtown area, parking concerns are handled by the Vancouver Police Department. Learn more about neighborhood parking enforcement outside downtown or report a concern to Vancouver Police Department.

General parking rules

● Vehicles may be parked on city streets for 24 hours at a time, exceeding this time may result in citation and/or tow at the owner’s expense.

● Storing a vehicle on the street is not allowed, violations may result in citations and/or tow at the owner’s expense.

● Vehicles must be operable and display current license plate tabs.

Where you cannot park:

● Within 5 feet of a driveway

● Within 20 feet of a crosswalk

● Within 30 feet of a stop sign

● Within 15 feet of a fire hydrant

● On sidewalks, planting strips, alleys, bicycle lanes, or travel lanes

● Facing against traffic.

Other restrictions:

● No parking in areas with “No Parking” signs

● No vehicles with “For Sale” signs on the street

● No non-emergency vehicle repairs in the street

● Streets are public: you cannot reserve parking in front of your home

● Oversized trucks (over 9,000 lbs.) cannot park in residential areas.

Recreation vehicles (RVs, trailers, and boats)

● Recreational trailers, motor homes (without a permit), boats/boat trailers, and abandoned or unauthorized vehicles cannot be parked on public streets, except temporarily while actively loading or unloading.

● To park a recreational vehicle or motor home on the street, you must have a temporary RV parking permit.

● This includes visitors staying at or near your home in a camping trailer or motor home.

● Each permit is valid for 7 days, with a maximum of 14 days per year per household.

● Boats, RVs, and trailers stored on the street without a valid permit are subject to citation and/or towing at the owner’s expense.
