Join the City of Vancouver and the City AmeriCorps team for a native planting event. Let’s add a little color and more native biodiversity to the landscape bed and add some mulch. The City’s Naturespaces program was created with a mission to restore native ecosystem on publicly owned land for human and wildlife benefit. Other benefits of this work are to improve soil health, enhance biodiversity, aid in stormwater management, attract pollinators, and boost resiliency to climate change.

This will be a 2-hour event. Training, gloves, tools, water, and snacks will be provided. This opportunity is family-friendly! Volunteers should dress for the weather and wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Youth under 18 must bring a signed minor consent form.

Accessibility is important to us, and we’ve taken it into account while planning this event. This park is wheelchair accessible, but planting will be done in a landscape bed that will require volunteers to access it through the grass. The work will be done in a street facing landscape bed, so there may be traffic noise. For mulching projects, volunteers may be shoveling, twisting and turning, and pushing wheelbarrows. The physical requirements for planting are possibly being on the knees or squatting and using a hand shovel or full-sized shovel. There may be a need for pulling weeds in the landscape bed, and those requirements are much the same, likely being on the knees, squatting, or sitting on the ground. There will be a space in the RSVP form for you to let us know if there are any accessibility needs you have so that we can do our best to find a volunteer role that will work for you.

(Registration will close two days prior to the event at 2 p.m. If registration is already closed and you still want to register, please email cityvolunteer@cityofvancouver.us to let us know you will be a walk-up and you can sign in on-site.)
