Attend the next 192nd Avenue improvement project open house
May 6, 2026

We invite community members to an open house to learn about early improvement designs for 192nd Avenue between Northeast 18th Street and Southeast 1st Street. The event will be held at Union High School, 6201 Northwest Friberg-Strunk St., from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12.
The City is in the design phase of the 192nd Avenue Improvement Project, which will modernize this one-mile corridor to meet current standards and prepare for expected future growth. Construction is planned to begin as early as 2028, pending funding.
Using feedback from the first open house in June 2025, ongoing community conversations and technical analysis, the project team will present an early design concept. Community members will have an opportunity to share their preferences on key elements and discuss potential impacts.
“The project team has received so much support and excitement for this project, a true testament to the importance of this work,” said Ivar Christensen, project manager, City of Vancouver. “Plans for new sidewalks and biking facilities, roads that can accommodate heavy traffic, and safer intersections are improvements we can all benefit from. We look forward to continuing conversations with the community to maintain that momentum and support.”
At the open house, attendees will have the opportunity to:
- Review the current design concept, including progress to date and future plans, such as roundabouts at four key intersections.
- Provide feedback on access and connectivity along the corridor.
- Share input on roundabout central island design.
- Offer preferences for crossings and multimodal features, including spaces for walking, biking, and rolling.
The project area is an important connector for thousands of southwest Washington travelers. The corridor currently lacks safe pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, experiences heavy congestion during peak commuting hours, and includes intersections with higher-than-average crash rates. About 14,000 vehicles travel the corridor daily, a number projected to increase to 22,000 by 2045. Nearby growth and development, including Section 30, are expected to add thousands of new homes, increasing the need for improvements.
The City is committed to involving the public at every stage of the project. Feedback collected at the open house will inform design decisions and help ensure the final improvements reflect local needs and priorities. The project team will continue working with the community on the project’s design through 2026.
