Commercial Cooking Hood and Duct Protection

Fee is per new system.

A permit and fee is not required if modification is limited to normal maintenance, replacing or reconfiguring heads and no increase in flow points used.  However, contractor should still notify the Fire Marshal’s Office of location and extent of work.

Fire Alarm Systems

Minor – additions, no new panel, up to 10 devices

Category 1

Affidavit for 1 to 4 devices is limited to spot smoke or heat detectors, horn/strobes, strobes, horns, mini-horns, manual pull stations or one communication device.

Smoke Control Systems

Includes shaft and hoist ways, atriums, malls, tunnels.

Fire review fee is due at submittal and serves as a deposit for fire plan review and/or design consultation meetings at $215 per hour.

The fire department will charge by the hour for the consultation, review, and inspections against the deposit. If the deposit is exhausted and additional work is required, the building owner/legal agent will need to arrange payment for additional hours worked prior to the hours being worked.

Refunds will be processed per VMC 17.08.130(G)(8)(h).

Technical Assistance Fire Review

Payment of base fee is required prior to commencement of technical assistance review.

Base fee includes two hours of consultation.

If additional fire protection engineering review and/or technical consultation time is required, the applicant may request additional time in two-plus-hour increments.

Trip Fee Assessment

Trip fees may be assessed when a reinspection is required because work is not ready for inspection, the work is not accessible for inspection, or the appropriate personnel or documentation is not on site.

Expedited Plan Review

This service is based on staffing availability and may not always be available.

After-hours fire plan review does not affect regular plan review submission queues.

Where authorized by the fire code official, and when staffing is available, fire plan reviews may be expedited on after-hours overtime.

A minimum of two hours is required, but not less than the actual number of hours to process the review.
