City supports proposed Interstate Bridge Replacement transit option

Today the Executive Steering Group for the Interstate Bridge Replacement Program (IBRP) heard the recommended transit approach for a future bridge to replace the existing Interstate Bridge. The City of Vancouver supports the direction for transit presented.
“The option presented today supports our community’s future plans for growth and development, serves identified markets and known demand and integrates existing and future modes and investments to better serve the region. It also supports our stated goals for climate and equity,” said Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle.
The introduction of light rail to downtown Vancouver supports the community’s vision to enhance access and service that will effectively accommodate Vancouver’s current and future growth.
“For years, C-Tran has provided the sole cross-state transit service from Vancouver to downtown Portland. Integrating C-Tran’s express bus service across state lines with light rail across the river will create a complementary – yet not duplicative – option for transit users,” said McEnerny-Ogle.
Enhancing transit options aligns with the City’s aggressive climate goals – the most aggressive in the region – to achieve net zero emissions by 2040.
“The City of Vancouver fully supports the Interstate Bridge Replacement Program. It’s in all of our best interests that the effort to replace the I-5 bridge is successful,” said McEnerny-Ogle.
The City is a member of the IBRP’s Executive Steering Group (ESG) which was convened by the Washington and Oregon Departments of Transportation. The ESG includes representatives from the 10 bi-state partner agencies with a direct delivery or operations role for the Interstate Bridge.
