Juneteenth is an American holiday that celebrates the 1865 liberation of the last enslaved African Americans by Union soldiers in Texas, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863. While it was officially recognized as a federal holiday in 2021, Juneteenth has been celebrated by Black Americans for over a century.

Juneteenth signifies the time when America fulfilled its commitment to liberty for all its citizens. Although our backgrounds may differ as Americans, our histories are intertwined. On this holiday, everyone is invited to celebrate the opportunity to stand united in freedom.
