Join Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle, project leaders, and business owners as we celebrate Main Street’s reopening and transformation.
Listen to remarks and enjoy light refreshments while exploring the safer, more accessible, and connected Main Street. Watch a performance from Metropolitan Performing Arts and live music from Liz Joy and Midnight Theory. This event is hosted in partnership with Vancouver’s Downtown Association.
Main Street Promise was a dream 30 years in the making. Under Main Street, we replaced aging infrastructure. Some underground utilities had not been touched for almost 100 years. We reconstructed water, wastewater, and stormwater utilities. We repaved Main Street and sections of side streets and installed new traffic signals and a charging station for e-bikes.
We improved safety by adding speed bumps, enhancing intersections and crosswalks, and switching to parallel parking. To make Main Street more accessible, we designed a curbless corridor with extended and ADA-compliant sidewalks, tactile sidewalk treatment, and audible crossings.
We added decorative lighting, dedicated spaces for public art, 104 bike parking spaces, removable bollards for pedestrian-only events, event power access, and outdoor seating and furnishings to make Main Street more welcoming.
