Site 1: Building Clear
Trainer: Austin Streubel
Decoys: 2/2 for scenario
Cover Officers: 2 ideal maybe LPD or KPD officer
TEMS/Medical: 0
Students at Once: 2
Equipment List
- Medical supplies
- Bandages
- Tourniquet
- Gauze
- Etc.
- Moving blanket for half wall
- Old training mat
Overall Plan
Building search with civil find in small closet and then further into the room there is a half wall that the canine will have to negotiate and engage the bite suit. The goal is to complete the clear using your cover officers properly and feeding the dog in methodically and not bypassing threats.
They should challenge the first decoy from a place of cover and not have their back exposed to the second decoy.
There are no surprises, just discussion points at the end is the point. In order to call out the closet decoy the handlers must utilize two points of contact on their canine to mitigate chances of the canine being freed where decoy has no equipment.
Finish the search. The trainer will gauge age of canine and experience to determine how the second decoy will be engaged. Most should be able to scale the half wall to engage the decoy.
Complete the search to the end with properly getting all in custody.
Site 2: Building Clear With Medical
Trainer: Dave Adam
Decoys: 1/2 for scenario
Cover Officers: 1 – Second Decoy
TEMS/Medical: 1 – Nicholas Copley
Students at Once: 2
Equipment List
- Medical supplies
- Bandages
- Tourniquet
- Gauze
- Etc.
- Blue guns
- Slap Bracelets
- SWAT Ace Bandages
Overall Plan
Building search from northwest exit into the building on line. Properly clear rooms and hallways up to the decoy hidden in bathroom stall with curtain.
Upon engaging the decoy, the decoy will apply a slap bracelet to the canine forearm where it would be proper to apply a tourniquet on the arm pit of the canine.
This should be completed without distraction of the decoy and provide their extraction plan which would include their plan to maintain care enroute to the trauma vet.
What is the name of your trauma vet that you are going to?

Extra Time Allowing
Then have the units break into two K9/officer teams to go through it so they have another set of eyes/someone to chat about things with as I help each pair w/ their dogs.
Depending how much time I have for each rotation, I could break this down into multiple practice sessions with two officers and their K9 so it’s not too much info at once.
