Police Camera Program

On October 3, 2022, the Vancouver City Council formally accepted a $1.5M U.S. Department Of Justice Grant to assist the Vancouver Police Department with purchasing and implementing a police camera program.

Camera Program Rollout

The Vancouver Police Department Camera Program will launch in phases:

  1. The first phase was the rollout of body worn cameras (BWC) to sworn staff members which was completed in March 2023.
  2. The second phase will be the installation of front-facing and rear passenger vehicle cameras in Vancouver Police patrol vehicles and several detective vehicles. The installation rollout for the in-car cameras starts September 26, 2023, and is expected to take approximately four weeks.

Critical Incident Videos

Following an officer involved shooting involving the Vancouver Police Department (VPD), VPD will release a Critical Incident Video, which includes video from department body worn cameras (BWC). The release of these videos is at the discretion of the Chief of Police or designee and is separate from any video that may be released by the Independent Investigation Team.
