City Manager Update: March 2024

March 6, 2024

As a long-time resident of the Vancouver community, I care deeply about our growing, vibrant and welcoming City. My 17 years in service to you, the community, with the City of Vancouver – 14 as City Manager – have been the richest, most rewarding of my career. That said, the time has come for me to announce my pending retirement.

On Monday, Feb. 26, I delivered my notice of retirement from the City of Vancouver to the City Council. In support of a thoughtful selection process of my successor and seamless transition of leadership, my effective date of retirement will be Oct. 11. The City Council has formed a subcommittee to lead a national search for the next City Manager. More details about the search will be released at a later date.

During my time here, I have had the honor of working with multiple generations of elected leadership and exceptional talent across the City organization. Joining forces with tremendous partnerships in the community, we have reinforced and accelerated the transformation of Vancouver. I personally still have a lot to accomplish over the next several months and intend to see this work through.

I’m confident that the foundation we have built combined with the momentum we established at the City will carry through to the next leader of the City organization. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to serve you, and to contribute to this remarkable place my family calls home.

I remain committed to fulfilling my role as your City Manager between now and my date of retirement, and supporting whomever the Council chooses to be my successor.
